The Sage
The Sage archetype is driven by the pursuit of truth and understanding. In its light expression, it brings wisdom, objectivity, and the ability to see through illusion to what's real. In shadow, the Sage becomes detached, using intellect as a defense against feeling, and mistaking knowledge for wisdom.
Light Expression
Wisdom, knowledge, objectivity, seeing truth clearly
Shadow Expression
Detachment, intellectual arrogance, dogmatism, analysis paralysis, cut off from feeling
Core Desire
To find the truth
Core Fear
Being duped, misled, ignorant
What Triggers the Shadow
Being proven wrong, encountering emotional or irrational situations, being asked to trust intuition over evidence
Integration
The integrated Sage balances thinking with feeling and head with heart. They recognize that wisdom is not the same as knowledge, that some truths can only be felt, not reasoned, and that the deepest understanding often comes from experience rather than analysis.
